Implementing A Steroid Testing Program |
 |
A successful drug testing program combines both education and testing, and should be a cooperative effort between students, parents and the school district – its administrators, teachers and coaches. NSADP takes the following steps to insure successful implementation that meets the needs and goals of each individual client:
Step One: Client Needs Analysis
We will meet with the client, on the “front” end, to directly analyze their current testing program (if it exists) and discuss their future goals/objectives with regard to substance abuse testing.
Step Two: Proposal
We will develop an individualized written proposal tailored specifically to address the client’s needs, goals and budgetary requirements. It is during this “stage” that the cost and volume of testing –– as well as the availability of substitute school nurse collectors –– is determined. We will also help arrange any possible outside funding opportunities (ie: government grants) available to help cover the costs associated with the testing program.
Step Three: Program Necessities
We continually maintain an open dialogue with the client to understand their ancillary needs for full program development. It is during this phase that we work closely with the client, and our marketing specialists, to develop and create program specific literature (brochures and hand-outs), posters, videos and even marketing/incentive tools (ie: clipboards, etc.) to effectively promote and enhance the program. (Over the years we have developed close working relationships with a myriad of federal agencies, such as NIDA (National Institute On Drug Abuse) and the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency), which now provide us critical information and educational/promotional materials for such client programs.)
Step Four: Timeline Implementation
We will formalize a strict timeline for the full implementation of the program itself. This includes the determination of when the testing program is to begin and the times and points of collection of the specimens themselves. See Effective Sampling for more information on the collection of specimens
Step Five: Program “Kickoff” Event(s)
We will develop complete informational and educational clinics utilizing a power point presentation as the center piece. The “Coaches Clinic” will be fully personalized and tailored to each school’s needs. This clinic will be used to familiarize the school coaches with the program, and prepare them for their responsibilities with regard to the program. See Education for more information on the role of coaches and parents in the implementation of a successful program.
